Sign the Petition: Protect Artistic Freedom in Canada

Shen Yun’s Toronto performances were cancelled after bomb threats that police determined unfounded. When intimidation can shut down lawful performances, artistic freedom is at risk in Canada.

Other similar incidents have been traced back to China, and after determining the threats unfounded, the shows have always proceeded safely. The cancellation of Shen Yun’s already-in-progress run is without precedent and sets a seriously troubling example of the restriction of artistic freedom in Canada.

Safety and well-being of patrons and staff is of paramount importance. Authorities should promptly investigate any such threats. When they are deemed unfounded or merely mischief, it’s critical that Canadian’s ability to enjoy the artistic performance of their choice be protected, even if such performance may not meet the approval of the Chinese Communist Party.
